I'm so Jeffrey my name is pulan the students here are all my student government we're really interested in the community providing a lot of support to the local politicians and um we're very thankful for you to take time at a very very busy schedule to be here with us press for Wulan thank you so much uh for extending the invitation uh and for your leadership and looking forward to the conversation with Kenya and each and every 1 of you I'm so proud to have the opportunity to represent you to represent the 8th congressional district in the neighborhoods uh within it uh but to represent Maxwell CTE High School otherwise known as the max I would just like to say a congressman Jeffries for your leadership and for showing us that our voices and concerns truly matter are you ready to start or fireside chat yes I am we are a CT school that offers certified nursing programs allowing students to graduate with State licensure as well well as first aid CPR and Noreen certifications recently the current president Administration reclassified nursing by excluding it from federal definition of a professional degree for student loan purposes may give more difficult for students to access high levels of financial aid if today's youth are considered the future what does this decision mean for our future and our Workforce health your system in our communities and thank you very much for that question it's a great question and I think it was a terrible decision that the administration made to me you know nursing is the classic definition of what a profession would be and it's a type of profession that we should actually be leaning into supporting it's a service profession right I mean nurses are amongst the most trusted people in this country uh because of the care that they provide when people are struggling battling illnesses or sickness Health Care challenges impact everyone so our view is that it's something legislatively that we should try to reverse my name is adira scannow welcome to the max I full grain and I am of the graphic design major and my question to you is what are you doing to engage young people particularly those who feel disconnected from the political process and how do you plan to make sure the voices are heard yeah no that's so incredibly important particularly with all of the horrible things that we're seeing uh in society you know it's 1 of the reasons why I was excited about visiting the max today and engaging with all of you and something that all of us in Washington we're encouraging each other you know to do and to connect in a variety of different ways in person to me always preferable but also focus on communicating with young people in the way in which you all get your news now and information through social media or Tik Tok or Instagram all of us need to make a concerted effort not just to let you know here's what we're working on but more importantly ask all of you what do you think we should be working what are your plans plans for addressing the epidemic of gun violence in not only our schools but the United States as a whole yeah it's such an important question because like this is 1 of those areas where we need a national response because gun violence this is a national problem and you know cities and states can take steps to deal with the gun violence epidemic and in America it is an epidemic leading cause of death gun violence for the children in America I mean that that's unacceptable how can that be right this is the wealthiest country in the history of the world gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and in this country it's because there's too many guns it's like 300 30 million people in America it's like 395 million guns there's more guns than people and no other country in the world is like this no other country in the world so for all of our greatness is we've fallen short it's been tremendous progress that we've made here in New York City still 1 gun violence death of 1 homicide is too many but there's definitely been significant Improvement because of work done at the city and the state level but nationally you know there's still a reluctance amongst many to actually deal with the fact that there are too many guns and weapons of war honoring Congressman Hakeem Jeffries for his exceptional service to his community in the nation you are the first recipient of the 2026 relax and Parliament award wow being pregnant proclaims that this Proclamation is presented as a token of appreciation and respect from the students faculty staff and Community School community of William H Maxwell for in technical education High School we had something made for you wow it says the max of course what's your name it has our School logo um with his hands all right oh wow woo
